Doral, November 6, 2024 (Doral First Magazine Editorial) – The victory of the “Doral United” candidates Christi Fraga, Rafael Pineyro, and Nicole Reinoso represents not only a vote for decency and respect in the city but also sends a clear message to the supporters and allies of former mayor Juan Carlos Bermúdez.
Mayor Christi Fraga defeated her opponent, Roxanna Garay, with 20,246 votes to Garay’s 5,270, resulting in a decisive 79.35% to 20.65% outcome against the novice candidate.
Councilman Rafael Pineyro, in turn, prevailed over attorney Ivette González Petkovich with 14,900 votes to 9,723, a final tally of 60.51% to 39.49%, thus securing Seat 1 on the Council for the next four years.
In the race for Seat 3, Nicole Reinoso achieved an impressive vote count, surpassing her two rivals with 10,340 votes against Juan Carlos Esquivel’s 8,249 and Irina Vilariño’s 4,554. The percentages left Reinoso just 6 points shy of victory, with 44.68%, Esquivel at 35.64%, and Vilariño at 19.68%. These figures mean Reinoso and Esquivel will face off again in less than a month to decide this crucial position.
Beyond the numbers, Doral residents sent a message of support for respect, merit, and opposition to the administrative obstacles orchestrated by former mayor Bermúdez and executed by his allies Digna Cabral, Oscar Puig-Corve, and Maureen Porras.
The predictable victory of Nicole Reinoso for Seat 3 will likely diminish the influence of Bermúdez’s “trio,” leaving him with only Councilwomen Digna Cabral and Maureen Porras, whose power is now greatly reduced and offers few opportunities to continue obstructing city projects and progress.
Fraga’s resounding victory made it clear that novice candidate Garay entered the challenging race solely to compete against the mayor. Additionally, both Vilariño and Esquivel were proven wrong in claiming Doral residents were disappointed with the Fraga administration, as the backing for Doral United was overwhelming.
It was also evident that candidate Vilariño, backed by Bermúdez, Digna Cabral, José “Pepe” Díaz, Oscar Puig-Corve, and other controversial figures, was rejected by voters due to her police issues, public scandals, and aggressive approach toward her opponents.
Without a doubt, Doral will continue to vote for respect and capability in office, and Seat 3 is set to be occupied by attorney Nicole Reinoso, despite any potential alliances between Esquivel and Vilariño. The latter is expected to shift her focus to business and withdraw from politics after her significant defeat at the polls.
