Doral (Septiembre 7/2022) Dos semanas después de las elecciones del 23 de agosto que dejaron como ganador del escaño 12 para la Comisión de Miami-Dade al candidato-alcalde Juan Carlos Bermúdez, las conclusiones saltan a la vista y es difícil negar que una vez se permite el empoderamiento de los gamonales a través del tiempo, desmontarlos de sus posiciones de privilegio es no solo difícil sino costoso también.
La victoria de Bermúdez, quien no tuvo el menor reparo en utilizar a los empleados de la alcaldía para su propio beneficio, deja un sabor amargo en miles de electores y seguramente traerá consecuencias negativas para los aspirantes a Concejo y Alcaldía que como borregos siguen al –ahora comisionado- esperanzados en una victoria el 8 de Noviembre.
Pero de todos estos hechos que caracterizan las democracias, perfectas e imperfectas, hay que extractar conclusiones para que los futuros candidatos sepan cómo capotear a los experimentados y vetustos gobernantes.
Primero, el candidato alcalde siempre fue muy claro en advertir que tenía el manejo de la maquinaria política y que eso le valdría una victoria como la que obtuvo. Sin embargo, lo que nunca dijo, pero que todos sospechábamos, es que tantos años en el poder también sirven para capitalizar respaldos, entregar jugosos contratos a poderosos amigos y empeñar los intereses de la ciudad pasando por encima de lo que sea mejor para los residentes de Doral.
Me refiero entre otras cosas, al “extraño” endoso de Donald Trump a Bermúdez, cuando este mismo lo había considerado ‘indigno’ de tener las llaves de la ciudad, hace unos años ya. Parece que las reuniones con Eric Trump en el Trump National Doral, no eran precisamente para preguntarle si había algún torneo de golf pronto o si la ciudad podría hacer otro evento como el del 4 de Julio a costa de los residentes de Doral.
Curiosamente dos días después de las elecciones se dio a conocer un documento en el que se convoca a reuniones de análisis solicitadas al Concejo de la ciudad por Trump Endeavour, con el fin de cambiar la asignación del predio en el que se ubica el club y construir miles de apartamentos en un futuro muy cercano. “Tú me endosas y yo ayudo a que eso salga rápido” es lo que aparenta este intríngulis político.
Por último, hay que concluir que Doral First Magazine, un medio comunitario, relativamente nuevo, sobrevivió a los ataques y amenazas del brazo armado de campaña de Bermúdez, por la sencilla razón de que ninguna de nuestras publicaciones dependen para su funcionamiento y circulación, de los favores del alcalde o de las dadivas del departamento de comunicaciones de la ciudad.
En Doral no existían o si llegaron a existir desaparecieron, medios críticos, con análisis e investigación que le contaran a los residentes lo que realmente hacen los gobernantes; lo bueno, lo malo y lo feo. En esa tarea seguiremos, amparados por la Primera Enmienda de nuestra Constitución y sin temor a los malandros de turno que mediante anónimos amenazan con hacernos desaparecer del espectro mediático de nuestra querida ciudad.
