Miami, (Mayo 7, 2022). El expresidente Donald Trump no deja de sorprender al país político con sus decisiones. Esta vez decidió involucrarse en la política de Miami-Dade endosando la campaña de Kevin Marino Cabrera, uno de sus directores de campaña durante las pasadas elecciones.
“Estoy seguro que Kevin representará a su comunidad con honor” dijo Trump el viernes en un discurso ante su comité de acción política conocido como “Salvemos América”.
El endoso se produce semanas antes de la fecha de cierre para la candidatura de la actual comisionada Rebeca Sosa quien deja el cargo por vencimiento de termino como representante del Distrito 6.
“Kevin Cabrera será un gran miembro de la Comisión de Miami-Dade” agregó Trump.
El acto político deja claro que más allá de las directrices del Partido Republicano, el expresidente Trump sigue liderando su propio movimiento y sigue congregando a sus seguidores alrededor de candidatos de su preferencia manteniendo así una fuerte presencia política en varios distritos del sur de Florida.
El Distrito 6 es un are a suburbana que se extiende desde el Aeropuerto Internacional de Miami hasta el sudoeste Miami y partes de Coral Gables, Hialeah, Miami Springs y Miami y allí Trump barrió fácilmente en las elecciones contra Biden, derrotándolo por 20 puntos.
EL PODER DE LA COMISIÒN
Las curules de la Comisión oficialmente no son partidistas, es decir, no se asignan dependiendo del partido político y los candidatos para sillas disponibles compiten por ellas en las primarias del 23 de agosto. Cuando se presentan más de dos candidatos, los dos con mayor votación van a elección nuevamente en Noviembre, esto en caso de que ninguno de los dos haya recibido más del 50% del voto inicial.
En el caso del Distrito 6 otros candidatos en carrera son Dariel Fernandez, del comité republicano de Miami-Dade, propietario de una firma de ‘software’ y el arquitecto Orlando Lamas.
EL DISTRITO 12 – LA DISPUTA ENTRE LA MAQUINARIA Y LA PREFERENCIA DEL PUEBLO
Dos candidatos se han inscrito para correr por la silla del Distrito 12 que deja vacante el actual presidente de la Comisión José “Pepe” Díaz, la prominente líder nicaragüense-americana Sophia Lacayo, quien representa la renovación y la esperanza de comunidades que urgen soluciones a problemas crónicos y el actual alcalde de Doral, Juan Carlos Bermúdez, de origen cubano, quien ha permanecido en el cargo por más de dos periodos y según sus propias palabras representa la “maquinaria política del Distrito” en una comunidad que exige renovación y nuevas caras.
Durante su campaña la nicaragüense de 42 años ha recibido el apoyo de empresarios, religiosos, organizaciones de mujeres, trabajadores informales, pequeños comerciantes y gente del común. Con una impresionante campaña y record en donaciones, la candidata camina las calles de las 6 ciudades que integran el Distrito, Sweetwater, Doral, Medley, Hialeah Gardens, Hialeah y Virginia Gardens, saludando a los residentes, escuchando sus preocupaciones y en muchos casos ayudando a solucionarlas de manera inmediata.
“Nuestros residentes merecen mejor calidad de vida y soluciones a problemas como empleo, transporte y seguridad” afirma Lacayo quien también se ha visto favorecida con el apoyo de destacados líderes de los dos partidos como el gobernador Ron Desantis, el ex congresista Lincoln Díaz Balart, la alcaldesa de Miami Dade, Daniela Levine Cava y otros importantes líderes políticos y comunitarios.
A QUIÈNES FAVORECEN LOS COMISIONADOS SALIENTES?
La entrada de Trump al terreno político domestico de Miami Dade, significa el comienzo de una serie de movimientos que obligarán a los líderes tanto republicanos como demócratas a salir de la sombra y manifestar sus apoyos. En el Distrito 12, el saliente José “Pepe” Díaz, siempre ha querido agradar a todo el mundo y muchas veces prefiere alejarse del endoso para no comprometer su futuro político. Sin embargo, sus detractores afirman que “Díaz” se acomoda con el que más votos le represente y no con el que favorezca a su comunidad.
No han sido pocas las veces en las que el comisionado amante de las motocicletas Harley Davidson y la política de “cafecito”, ha actuado en contra de los intereses de las ciudades de su Distrito para proteger los intereses del condado, como en el actual caso de la planta incineradora de basuras de COVANTA en Doral, en el que “Pepe” se ha convertido en un promotor de la idea de que esta planta permanezca en la “ciudad de los parques” a pesar de que la gran mayoría de sus residentes quieren que no se renueve su contrato en 2023.
Seguramente “Pepe” terminará cobijándose con el candidato de la maquinaria, asumiendo un gran riesgo para su aspiración de convertirse en alcalde de Sweetwater, su ciudad, a la que ha defendido inclusive en contra de otras de su mismo Distrito-12 como en el caso de la anexión de terrenos ubicados al oeste del Florida’s Turnpike en meses pasados, un caso en el que los habitantes de Doral lo calificaron como “traidor” ya que con los votos de esta ciudad fue que Díaz llegó y permaneció en la Comisión.
La que si ha sido bien clara en sus preferencias ha sido Rebeca Sosa quien el Jueves en la mañana, endosó a un nuevo candidato en la carrera por la silla 6 de la Comisión, el concejal de Coral Gables Jorge Fors Jr quien no tiene mucho capital político pero según Sosa, “la comunidad lo conoce”. Pareciera que el respaldo de Sosa, a pesar de ser republicana, busca dividir el capital votante de los cuatro candidatos en contienda para debilitar al candidato de Trump, una práctica electoral muy utilizada cuando los candidatos temen ser arrollados por el voto de otros más fuertes.
Fuentes cercanas a Cambio Hispano Magazine, casa matriz de este medio afirmaron que en pocos días el presidente Trump anunciará otros respaldos a políticos en carrera para primarias, algo que tiene muy nerviosos a los indecisos o a aquellos que como dice el adagio popular, “quieren estar con Dios y con el diablo”.
